Workshops

Work Shops can be run as half day or full day professional development sessions, or modified to accompany lunch-and-learns. Customized workshops and corporate training are available. For a list of current workshops being offered through Bright Minds at our office at CO:WORK please go to the NEWS & EVENTS page.

Diversity and the Workplace

This interactive workshop enables clients to understand the need fro out-of-the box thinking in the work environment. Through a series of hands on group activities, clients are able build a shared understanding of diversity and various approaches to work based on varied cultural models. Creative strategies and outside-of-the box thinking are brought into this workshop with paper, scissors and glue. As one of our most popular workshops, diverse workspaces are left with a shared mutual understanding of difference and commonality, and improved work productivity.

Pronunciation

Pronunciation is an often neglected area when it comes to ESL education and Language acquisition, however accents can often impede communication in the workplace. This workshop focuses on the Listening, Speaking, Talking, and Hearing. It offers insightful tips to increase both individual understanding and comprehension. Working with supra-segmental, insight and tips are offered. Every wonder why we say "Torono", not "Toronto" or  "Oddawa" not "Ottawa"? Why it is easier to understand the news than a sitcom? This workshop will shed light on common issues.

Pronunciation - Advanced

A supplement to our standard Pronunciation workshop this course offeres a more in-depth study of individual sounds, areas of articulation, and additional practice and exercises for further accent reduction. This course can be customized to particular language groups.

Business English
This workshop approaches business English through the use of idioms. One of the most common issues for new Canadians in the workplace is understanding the nuances of coloquial language in the business world. This workshop incorporates phrasal verbs, and common idioms. It's important "to learn the ropes" and "get the hang it" to succeed in the workplace. This workshop also touches on prepositions and common mistakes made by English as a second language learners.

Out-of-the Box thinking
Out-of-the box thinking is a western phenomena that is increasingly being implemented as a strategy in our economy. Employees that are able to become creative problem solvers can be valuable assets to companies and organizations. This workshop helps understand what creativity looks like, and approaches this concept through interactive group activities to help promote team work and engagement. From accounting firms, to pharmaceutical companies, creativity is no longer relegated for the arts. Diverse workplaces must help their staff understand the importance of our-of-the box thinking and embrace it in the workplace.
